Worship is at the very core of our faith. To come and give thanks and praise to God is one of the essential purposes of our lives, both individually and as a community. Worship at St. James follows a pattern and the congregation has a part in that pattern. In this way worship is not a "spectator event" but rather involves everyone in giving thanks and praise to God. This is one of the reasons we print the entire worship service in the bulletin or show it on the screen, so that the entire congregation, even first time visitors, can easily participate. Worship should also connect on many levels so we use multimedia (using a video projector), live art, drama, testimonies, music, and multi-sensory experiences to communicate the unchanging truth of God’s message in new and creative ways! Traditionally, Lutheran Worship has always been centered around the Word and Sacraments (Communion and Holy Baptism) and this is true at St. James. At St James we use both wine and grape juice and communion is open to all who want to come and receive Jesus Christ, truly present in this gift of life. We offer three worship service with two distinctively different worship and musical styles to provide more variety. In this way we can connect with various age groups and ways in which people want to praise God. Our contemporary service features a large band including drums, guitar, keyboard and other instruments and number of vocalists. The music is contemporary but also solidly Christian. Our traditional service is led by organ, piano and a multi-voice choir and uses many of the favorite hymns of the Church. We especially want to be helpful to parents and connect with children so there is nursery care during worship and a children’s message that teaches Biblical truth. All of our worship services have been designed so that children will be in church for a praise song, prayer, scripture readings and Children's Message and then proceed to Kids Connect (interactive program to help kids connect with Jesus and each other) at 5:15 pm on Saturday and 9:15 and 11 am on Sunday. Saturday Kids Connect follows the summer worship schedule. During special services and on some holidays, the worship is more family oriented and some of the children remain in church with their families.
