St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1818 as part of a Union church with St. James Reformed Church (now St. James United Church of Christ.) Residents of Limerick wanted a church near their homes where they could worship and have the Gospel preached to them. The congregation included English and German speaking residents of the Limerick Township area. One of the most significant events in the life of the church was the splitting of that union and the construction of this building in 1964. This has allowed the church to grow and reach out to many new people. With this rich history, St. James is continuing to move into the future with confidence, excitement and hope. As the local community and society in general has changed, St. James is constantly looking for new ways to live out our mission statement…to grow closer in loving God and finding new ways to share this love with our neighbor!
